A couple of days ago someone emailed asking about the node; he seemed to be in touch with the Carrot Common folks. Today at around 3pm the node came back up (after being down for a *really* long time). I inquired with the person who emailed; he said that Dan from the Carrot Common “plugged it back in.”
Michael and Gabe went by today. Michael had been by previously to install new PoE gear in the office, and the router didn't come up. We tried a bunch of stuff and concluded that the ethernet run from the office to Aroo is partially damaged, which means that it's not reliable for PoE, but it works fine for just data. We ran an AC extension to the router and removed the PoE gear and now it's online.
I went by the Common to resolve the problem. Lots of changes including another property manager (Dan). His office is no longer where Evan's was (moved a few doors down the hallway) and it appears that someone might actually be *living* in the old office (cot, hotplate, kettle, scent of dude in small space) and using Common's DSL connection, as we were, for the one desktop he has in there.
Power supply and PPoE input from the WRT router is missing (router remains in Aroo ceiling) and would need to be replaced, plus clear arrangements and expectations agreed upon, before flipping it back on. Otherwise we're better to kill the node, at least publicly, as it is doing nothing for us.
Spoke to Dan the new property manager. Turns out he unplugged the router line (Cat5 with PPoE). Heading up on Wednesday to spend the few minutes required getting it back online.

The hotspot has been down for a while. Michael posted this useful info on the mailing list:
The Carrot Common install is a slight oddity – connection and power come from the property manager's (Jill) office in the basement of the building on the westside of the courtyard and fed up over the ethernet cable to a router tucked into the drop ceiling of one of the shops.
If a reboot is all that's needed it can happen from the manager's office, unplugging the Power Over Ethernet, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in. Jill's done this a couple times now. Doesn't seem to be resolving the problem though.
Assuming the router itself needs attention it's more awkward, requiring coordination with the Awoo shopkeeper and a ladder. Plus cleanup of nasty drop-ceiling cruft.
Gabe heard back from Jill – she restarted the router. It's still not up, so a visit will be required. Michael said that he'll be able to do it soon.
Router still down. Gabe left a message for Jill asking her to call him back and let him know what's going on.
Left a mesage for Jill Stagg (outgoing vmail says Evan but Jill's replaced him some months back) a few days ago. Left another today to the same effect – please unplug the blue ethernet cable for 30 secs to reboot the router. This /should/ do it.
If a visit is required, arrangements must be made with Jill (her office is locked) and optionally the Aroo shop owner. Router is in a drop ceiling above the cash register, requires a ladder and broom to clean up ceiling kruft. Access to the office is easier and cleaner.
Jill's there 8-4 typically. Shop opens at 10am. Can't remember shop keepers name but she didn't care much for the ceiling bits on her counter, understandably.

I had Jill Stagg (property manager) power-cycle the router by disconnecting the ethernet cable that runs from her office (basement) up to the Aroo store. It's a PoE set-up so unplugging from the wall jack downstairs (to the left of the prop manager desk) takes care of it.
Carrot Common is back online now.

The router's been reported down for about a week. Michael spoke with Jill, and she'll be rebooting the router today. Router is a little awkward, tucked in the drop ceiling of Aroo with a PoE down to her office. Unplugging the injector for 10 seconds should do it.
